Jab Harry Met Sejal box office collection day 3: Shah Rukh Khan’s film fails to live up to the expectation, earns Rs 45.75 crore

You don’t expect this from a Shah Rukh Khan film. We are used to seeing big numbers when it comes to his movies and Jab Harry Met Sejal is definitely not one in that category. Despite sizeable screen count of 31oo and good first day occupancy, the film has failed to make even Rs 50 crore over the weekend. As revealed by Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, “#JabHarryMetSejal Fri 15.25 cr, Sat 15 cr, Sun 15.50 cr. Total: ₹ 45.75 cr. India biz… #JHMS” As you can see, Saturday saw a drop from Friday which was enough to say how the film is faring at the box office. He further even added, “#JabHarryMetSejal has emerged a DISAPPOINTMENT… Barring few metros, the biz ranged from ordinary to dull… Jump in biz was missing. #JHMS” Clearly, trade gurus aren’t happy with the performance of the film at the box office. You don’t expect such numbers from a Shah Rukh film. In fact, it is reminding us of Fan which saw a similar trend.

Jab Harry Met Sejal received mixed response from the first day itself. They loved SRK and Anushka Sharma’s chemistry but everything else failed to whet their appetite. NDTV was not too impressed with the cheesiness of the film. They wrote, “First half: breezy but unabashedly banal. Second half: riddled with toe-curling romantic mush. Sum total: a journey without maps that weaves concentric circles around sweet nothings and empty prittle-prattle.” Times of India seems to have gotten tired of  signature elements that Imtiaz’s films have. “The plot is wafer-thin and it’s been done to death by none other than Imtiaz Ali in each of his earlier films—be it Jab We Met, Cocktail and Tamasha.” they wrote in a 3 star review. Though they did the love the chemistry shared by Anushka and SRK like us. They wrote, “What makes this film watchable though is the presence of Shah Rukh and Anushka both of who are in top-form in their Punjabi and Gujarati impersonations. In fact, SRK is like old wine, the more he matures, the better he romances,” they wrote. We loved the film though as our Editor in Chief Tushar Joshi wrote, “Jab Harry Met Sejal is all heart and deserves a watch for Shah Rukh and Anushka‘s crackling chemistry that takes the film to another level. Imtiaz Ali’s this journey is definitely worth the price of your ticket.” So such polarised reactions must have become its undoing.
