This is extremely unfortunate. Sitaram Panchal, best known for his performance in Irrfan Khan’s Paan Singh Tomar, passed away this morning after battling lung cancer for the last 3 years. Turns out the actor complained of breathlessness earlier this morning and was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, the doctors couldn’t do much as his situation only worsened with passing time, before he breath his last around 7.45 am. Just a month back, Sitaram’s wife Uma had spoken about his bad health stating, “He stopped eating completely last year as his stomach would hurt all the time. He was constantly vomiting and is extremely weak. He now weighs only 30 kg. Since acting was his only source of income, he worked between September-October last year when he was slightly better with medication, and shot for small roles in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Raag Desh and Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 2. But the treatment has aggravated his diabetes, which led to him losing his voice.”
Since acting was Sitaram’s only source of income, the actor had even sought for financial help from the film industry during his ailing days. In fact, many had taken up to social media asking people to help where CINTAA’S Amit Behl had also issued a statement saying, “Sitaram is a senior member of the fraternity and he is in the last stage of cancer. The moment this news got circulated, artistes who stay near his house went to meet him. We have circulated his bank details among various actors and help has already begun to pour in. While we are helping in individual capacity, the association will try to provide medical assistance via hospitals we have tie-ups with. We are hoping that he recuperates soon.” However, even after Haryana government offered Rs 5 lakh for the actor’s treatment, he continued his Ayurvedic medicine and did not switch to allopathic treatment.
What might further break your heart is the fact how Sitaram also celebrated his wedding anniversary on Wednesday. His son, Rishabh had posted a picture of the actor and wished his parents. We hope Sitaram’s family is strong enough in this saddening phase. May his soul rest in peace.
